Sunday Ice Cream is a small but lively spot nestled in the heart of San Diego’s Convoy neighborhood, right inside Seoul Plaza. If you’ve just finished a Korean meal nearby or are looking for something cool and satisfying on a warm afternoon, this place fits the bill. It’s not a large storefront—more of an intimate ice cream nook—but it quickly fills up on weekends, especially in the early to mid-afternoon.

The atmosphere leans cozy and welcoming rather than flashy, with warm tones and a casual vibe that feels comfortable for families and groups of friends alike. While the interior isn’t extravagant, it has an artistic touch and feels inviting enough to linger a bit while you enjoy your scoop or two.

Sunday Ice Cream stands out for its distinctively Asian-inspired flavors, offering choices you won’t often find in standard ice cream shops. Varieties like ube, taro, black sesame, Thai tea, and boricha highlight a creative twist on classic desserts. Sampling is encouraged, which helps with the tough decisions—there’s a wide range of flavors from earthy, nutty notes to sweet and floral profiles. They also offer interesting combinations served in waffle bowls or cones, with an added bonus of complimentary condensed milk to drizzle over your ice cream for that extra touch of richness.

This spot caters well to families with kids as well as adults looking for a unique sweet treat. Weekdays and mid-afternoon visits usually mean a quieter experience, while weekends can get bustling, reflecting the local popularity and the steady foot traffic from the nearby restaurants and shops in the plaza.

  • Best for: People seeking creative, Asian-inspired ice cream flavors and a casual stop to cool off.
  • Who enjoys it: Families, locals finishing up meals nearby, and those who appreciate small-batch gelato-style ice creams.
  • Best time to visit: Weekday afternoons for a quieter vibe; weekends for a livelier crowd and to soak up the local buzz.
  • Atmosphere: Cozy and unpretentious, with a local neighborhood feel rather than a trendy cafe atmosphere.

Sunday Ice Cream – A Must-Visit Dessert Spot in Kearny Mesa Tucked inside the bustling Seoul Plaza, Sunday Ice Cream stands out as one of the best dessert stops in the Convoy area, especially after a hearty Korean meal nearby. Though the storefront isn’t large, the shop draws a crowd during weekend peak hours—and for good reason. The interior is decorated with warm, cozy vibes and artistic flair—from charming wall and window art, Polaroid photos, and logo T-shirts, to a restroom that somehow feels like home. The atmosphere alone makes it worth visiting. As for the ice cream, the quality of ingredients is clearly top-tier. Classic flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and matcha are creamy and smooth, but the ube (taro) is a true standout—rich in aroma and silky in texture. The Strawberry Milk flavor is equally impressive, striking a perfect balance between fruity and creamy. For something playful, try the Hello Panda flavor, which mixes crunchy Hello Panda biscuits and chocolate chunks for added texture and sweetness. The staff is friendly and patient, happily offering multiple samples to help you choose. On my visit, I was even given two generous scoops for the price of a single split. A crispy waffle biscuit comes with each bowl, and free condensed milk and sugar toppings are available for that extra touch of indulgence. Parking can be tricky during peak hours, but a garage and ample street parking behind the plaza make it manageable. Avoid coming late at night since the toppings and cookies might be out of stock. Sunday Ice Cream is a gem—perfect for cooling down after a savory meal nearby or just treating yourself to a sweet escape. A must-try in the Convoy neighborhood!

A unique ice cream shop with custom flavors like: Honey Jujube, Mango Passion Fruit, and others I can’t remember. The flavors were very nice, but a little sweet. The interior of the place was not very appealing, but you’re not coming here for the atmosphere. Overall a nice dessert stop after a lunch or dinner.

I loved this place! Many unique flavors that are Asian inspired. They allow sampling. Service was friendly. We walked in around 2 or 3pm on a Saturday and it was empty, but after 10 mins the whole place got packed. The ambiance feels very inviting for families of all ages. There were many kids present. After we ordered our scoops they had complimentary condensed milk we could add to our ice cream. We ordered split scoops of Boricha & Jujube Honey split single scoop and Ube & Thai Tea split single scoop. They have limited seats with a few chairs outside the shop. Boricha: 4.5/5 Jujube Honey: 5/5 Ube: 4.5/5 Thai Tea: 4/5

You can’t go wrong with anything at Sunday’s. Flavorful and unique, I loved every flavor I tried before finally (after several minutes of hard decision making) settling on the staff member’s recommendation of boricha. Even the cones here are wonderful. I forgot my Lactaid as well, but no worries! There’s a small bucket where you can get one for 50 cents, making this place the perfect Asian dessert stop.

Conveniently located right next to where we had BBQ, Sunday Ice Cream was an easy and sweet stop after dinner. The shop has tons of creative Asian-inspired flavors that caught our eye right away — from sesame to matcha to taro. We tried the sesame ice cream, and it was creamy, rich, and awesomely delicious. The place was packed but the line moved quickly, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Parking, on the other hand, was a bit of a hassle. The area is super busy, so we ended up parking in a nearby paid garage — not too bad for the convenience. Overall, a fun and tasty experience, especially if you’re into Asian-style flavors and want a nice treat after your meal!

This is one of the ice cream shops where you want to try every single flavor and go back to back days to do so. Rec in the area for simple but well done Asian flavor ice creams. Also a place where you forget to take a photo before you dig in because you're so excited

Sunday's is a nice little ice cream shop that offers some unique flavors. The honey dew melon and taro were our favorite flavors! The shop is pretty small, so there can be a line, but its definitely worth the wait and the staff are very friendly.
